According to him, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has documented 75 cases of arbitrary detention of civilians in Ukraine. Most of them were suspected of criminal offenses related to the conflict.
According to TASS, Turk noted that many arbitrary arrests were “the result of overly broad amendments” to Ukraine’s criminal law.
In addition, according to the UN, staff in informal places of detention and in formal SIZOs have resorted to torture or ill-treatment, including sexual violence.
