At Milan Fashion Week, Furla presented a new bag made from biodegradable leather. The Unica model was created in collaboration with Cyclica, an Italian leather company that invents innovative materials for the luxury segment. Oleum®, one of Cyclica’s developments, is genuine bovine leather tanned with the by-products of olive oil production. Also, at all stages of production, the skin is treated only with natural elements: waxes, fats, mineral salts. As a result, the material is absolutely ecological and 98% biodegradable.
The Unica model is launched in two sizes: a medium-sized crossbody bag or a roomy shopper bag. There are six shades in the palette: in addition to the classic black and white, there is pale pink, blue, eggplant and green. Each was achieved with the help of natural dyes. A rare dark variety of corn (mais purple) was used for a soft pink hue, and spirulina mined from the Italian Po River was used for the blue. Green is obtained from spinach, purple from the reddish bark of logwood.
Furla’s novelty in the advertising campaign is presented by the model Irina Shayk. The photos were taken by New York-based photographer Koto Bolofo. The geometric compositions emphasize the architecture of the bag. It has smooth side curves, but the top and bottom are clear. The Unica Furla Earth Limited Edition collection will go on sale on February 23, in the brand’s online store, as well as in selected flagship stores.
