The university’s engineers actually solved the problem of a shortage of critical components for production: similar products were previously ordered from Europe, but due to sanctions, deliveries were halted and purchases through parallel imports cost twice as much. Without this component, the car giant would be forced to stop production.

Ural engineers studied the materials of the original product, selected a domestic substitute, built a 3D model, and then manufactured a prototype. According to the technical requirements and design documentation, the module must clean and cool the oil and operate without failures throughout the entire service life of the engine, which is at least 1.5 million kilometers on the road and at least 25 thousand hours in off-road conditions.

– And the Ural analogue coped with this task. A prototype of the oil filter module has been bench-tested and tested as part of the engine. It is fully compatible with the engine design. Our design and technological solutions are competitive in relation to foreign models,” said Alexander Knyazev, chief designer of the center, on the results.

Note that the university has been cooperating with the plant for several years and in various areas. For example, employees of the company act as mentors, helping students to deepen their knowledge in the field of automotive engineering, and university scientists participate in promising developments. By the way, a number of studies aimed at improving the performance characteristics of truck engines were previously carried out at the student design bureau of UrFU.
