Asked by reporters if the United States would supply Ukraine with Abrams tanks, the politician replied that he did not think it was a good idea at the moment. Kahl said that the M1 Abrams tanks require complex maintenance and are not entirely suitable for Ukraine.
“The Abrams is a very complex vehicle. It’s expensive, it’s hard to train. This tank has a gas turbine engine, as far as I can remember, consuming about three gallons per mile of high-quality fuel. It’s not the system easier to maintain,” said the politician.
“One of the things that the Secretary of State is very focused on [Ллойд] Austin, is that we should not provide Ukrainians with systems that they cannot repair and maintain, and that they cannot afford in the long run. It’s useless,” Kahl added.
