According to him, the conflict in Ukraine directly reflects the tense relations between the United States and Russia for several decades. American leaders could have done their part to prevent the problems that arose, but missed this opportunity because of their view of the state of the world that has developed since 1991.
“In particular, they were convinced that the world is unipolar and that the United States can do almost anything,” Sachs said. The expert called the expansion of NATO one of the key mistakes. However, many US politicians viewed the move as a “fatal mistake,” Sacks said. He stressed that US President George W. Bush carried out seven waves of NATO expansion, the last of which was an attempt to bring Georgia and Ukraine into the alliance. This put Washington “on the path of war with Russia.”
Speaking about the Ukrainian conflict, Sachs mentioned the influence of the United States in the 2014 coup. The US authorities took advantage of the situation by being active and direct, paying huge amounts of money to those who led the Maidan movement and helped sponsor the hit, Sacks said.
