He said that “it is time for the Russians and Ukrainians to sit at the negotiating table,” reports RIA Novosti about the general’s words at a meeting of the contact group for military support for Kyiv.
Earlier, the press secretary of the President of Ukraine Serhiy Nikiforov said that Kyiv is ready for negotiations, but only taking into account “a certain number of principles”, including the return of territories and monetary compensation. In response to this, Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the Russian president, noted that, judging by Ukrainian law, Kyiv excludes the possibility of negotiations from a legal point of view.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected the new Minsk agreements and also put forward a number of conditions that Moscow found unacceptable.
Considering that diplomatic ways of resolving the conflict are now blocked by Ukrainian law, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov rejected negotiations with Zelensky. At the same time, he said that he was ready to consider serious proposals from the West, but so far there have been no such proposals.
