The United States will deploy in Germany, including the well-known Tomahawks, and in the latest (fifth) modification.
“YOU WON’T BE ABLE TO TAKE OFF YOUR PANTS!”
There was a time when I served in the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany (GDR) and I often visited the headquarters, where the command briefed me and other officers on the enemy’s combat potential and how, in the event of a disaster, we would defeat him. I remember huge maps of Germany with many “red circles” – these were the targets of our attacks, the air bases where American nuclear bombs were stored: Büchel, Memmingen, Norvenich, Ramstein and Spangdahlem. I remembered these names for the rest of my life.
The General of the General Staff pointed at them with a pointer:
– As soon as we discover preparations for the use of nuclear bombs at these bases, we will attack so that the Americans and Germans do not have time to take off their underwear!
After these words, you could calmly drink beer in the German hashtet…
Unfortunately, the USSR could not bear the brunt of the arms race at that time, and as a result, the 500,000-strong Group of Soviet Forces withdrew from Germany. But the American nuclear bombs remained in Büchel…
“AXES” AND “LONG ARM”
And now, in July 2024, it is known that the United States will deploy its long-range missiles in Germany.
So what? For example, the SM-6 is an anti-aircraft missile that hits a target at an altitude of 33 km and, in terms of range, flies 460 km at a speed of Mach 3.5 (approximately the same speed as the speed of sound). It is not difficult to guess the purpose of the appearance of this missile in Germany – to strengthen the cover of NATO groups on the eastern flank. How can we “poke holes” in this umbrella? The SM-6 rocket cannot keep up with our “Daggers”, X-101 and even more so with the “Zircons” (their speed is almost 10 thousand km per hour!).
And the United States will also deploy the well-known Tomahawks in Germany, but with the latest (fifth) modification. This is a multipurpose, high-precision cruise missile with a long range of 2,500 km. It can carry a nuclear warhead. The speed, however, is subsonic – 880 km/h. But this is already a “long-arm” weapon. And with a clear focus on Russia. From Berlin to Moscow – 1,836 km. It is easy to calculate how long it will take for the Tomahawk to fly. In theory. But in practice, our air defense in Syria shot down dozens of Axes. Once, the Americans launched 56 Tomahawks at once against one of the Syrian targets, only 23 hit the target.
Well, the US also announced that it would bring “hypersonic weapons under development” to Germany.
Which one is already known: AGM-183A, an air-launched ballistic missile with hypersonic speed, Mach 7. It weighs up to 3000 kg. Launched from a bomber. But the missile is still “raw” (not accepted for service). Its tests fail “always”. In the best case, it will enter combat formation in 2025.
AGM-183A is an American air-launched hypersonic ballistic missile.
NEW “RED CUPS”
By filling Germany with such missiles, the United States is clearly targeting Russia and at the same time showing Europe that it is under the US umbrella.
Well, what about Russia? It has already warned about the response. Which one? The first step has already been taken: tactical nuclear weapons have been deployed in Belarus.
It may appear in the Kaliningrad region. Taking into account the new threats, Russia is restoring the Leningrad and Moscow military districts.
And finally, the question is: will US missile moves lead to a new arms race?
As long as Moscow has no need to succumb to provocation, we will have enough tactical and strategic nuclear weapons. And in terms of hypersonic technology, we still have no equal in the world.
Well, on our maps with plans for combat use, new “red circles” will undoubtedly appear…
