USGS: Tsunami threat announced for several Pacific islands after powerful earthquake KXan 36 Daily News

According to seismologists, the epicenter of the tremor fell to the southwest of Fiji, to the north of New Zealand and to the east of Australia.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center warned that waves up to 3 meters high are possible in Vanuatu, up to 1 meter above tide in Fiji, New Caledonia, Kiribati and New Zealand.

New Zealand’s National Emergency Management Agency has issued a tsunami warning.
