According to Mash, actor Valery Afanasyev has serious vision problems. The 75-year-old People’s Artist is almost blind in one eye. Problems with the retina of my right eye began two years ago. Over time, cataracts joined. A course of treatment with intraocular injections temporarily helped. Doctors recommended Afanasyev to go to the hospital for surgery. Because of this, performances with his participation are under threat.
We called Valery Alekseevich to find out how he was feeling.
– Everything is fine with me. I am currently on tour in Kogalym, taking part in a concert programme dedicated to the fifth anniversary of the opening of the Maly Theatre branch in Ugra. I don’t care what they write about me.
It is worth recalling that a year and a half ago, Valery Alekseevich was admitted to the Botkin hospital with a knee joint injury, which he received at the premiere of the play “Warm Heart”. He later told KP that he was inattentive on stage, stumbled and sat down wrong on his leg.
He has 14 titles in his repertoire. There are not big roles everywhere, there are replacements somewhere, but Valery Afanasyev is really a sought-after artist, one could say that he is the foundation of the Maly Theatre. There are no changes in the poster yet.
Valery Afanasyev’s theatrical career began in 1970. He performed on the stage of the Gogol Theater, the South-Western Moscow Theater, the Stanislavsky Electrotheater. Since 2017 – in the troupe of the Maly Theater, where he has taken part in the productions “Simplicity is enough for every wise man”, “Marriage”, “Woe from Wit”, “Players”, “The Marriage of Figaro”, “Warm Heart”, “My Tender Beast”…
His filmography includes more than two hundred films, including the series “Editorial”, “Citizen Chief”, “Russian Amazons”, “Threads of Fate”, “Good Intentions”, “Ivanov-Ivanov”, “Sklifosovsky”, “Identification” , “The Penultimate Instance”.
