The City Council of Venice announced that from July 1, 2022 it will change the rules for tourists who want to visit the city: from this date, travelers will only be able to travel with pre-issued electronic passes.

In order to receive the coveted QR code, which gives the right to travel along the famous Venetian canals, tourists must register on a special platform or mobile application.

The Italian authorities explain their decision by the desire to stimulate the tourist flow in the city.

The system, which comes into force in July, is not a recent invention: the decision to pre-register was made in 2019. At the same time, it was decided to introduce a tax on the stay in Venice in the amount of 3 to 10 euros (approximately 210 -700 rubles), depending on the season.

At the same time, while we are talking only about registration, the introduction of the tax was postponed until next year.

The additional funds to be received by the Venice treasury after the introduction of additional fees are expected to be used to maintain order and cleanliness in the city.

“I thank those who will help keep things clean and make life more comfortable for citizens,” said Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro.
