The total number of subscribers of Russian-language Telegram channels in 2022 increased from 1 billion to 2 billion. Analysts took Russian-language channels into account and identified them as Russian. Forbes writes about this with reference to a study by the advertising agency TGStat Agency.
The largest increase in total viewership occurred in March 2022. The number of non-unique subscribers to Russian-language Telegram channels increased from 1.09 billion to 1.3 billion.
The fastest growing channels were the head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov (3 million new subscribers), RIA Novosti (2.6 million) and Readovka (1.6 million). Among bloggers, Ksenia Sobchak (Caution, News and Bloody Lady channels), Dmitry Maslennikov, Vlad Bumaga and Ilya Varlamov (Varlamov News channel) had the most viewership growth.
The TGStat agency also recorded an increase in the total number of Telegram channels. In the Art category, the number of channels has doubled by 2022. In the categories “News & Media”, “Blogs”, “Medicine”, “Nature”, “Gaming”, “Fashion & Beauty”, “Law”, more than one and a half times.
