Changes have been proposed to the draft federal law regulating the legal status of foreign entities. The document will be submitted to a second reading.
One of the amendments provides for the issuance of temporary residence permits in Russia in a simplified manner after three years of marriage to a Russian citizen. Only after the expiration of this minimum period will it be possible to apply for the corresponding permit outside the quota.
“If a marriage is entered into for love, and not for selfish reasons, this is not an obstacle to creating a family,” Volodin believes, “the union will only be stronger and tested by time.”
He cited data from the Ministry of the Interior, according to which, since 2021, more than 4,300 fictitious marriages have been celebrated to obtain immigration status.
Another proposed amendment aims to combat so-called fictitious paternity or motherhood. That is, it will be possible to obtain a residence permit after the adoption of a child who is a Russian citizen, without being married, only three years after the beginning of cohabitation or maintenance of the home. This must be proven in court.
“The proposed rules will help prevent obtaining a temporary residence permit in our country and a residence permit,” the speaker explained, “including for the purpose of acquiring Russian citizenship through fraudulent actions and schemes.”
