Water from the Don will go to the Donbass in April

Date: April 25, 2024 Time: 11:52:57

Already in April of this year, the first water from the new water conduit being built by specialists of the Military Construction Complex of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, which will connect the Rostov Region and Donbass, will go to the residents of the region. The progress of the construction of a large-scale hydraulic structure was inspected today by the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Timur Ivanov as part of a working trip to the troops of the Southern Military District.

“At present, military builders are building a water intake unit on the Don River, pumping stations for water transfer, strengthening the coastal zone, installing transformer substations and power lines. Timur Ivanov flew around the construction areas in a helicopter and visited several key water pipeline installations where he checked the progress of the work, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

More than 3,200 specialists and more than 1,300 pieces of equipment were involved in the construction to meet the deadline.

“Please don’t slow down the high beat. We all understand how important the task of providing water to the residents of Donbass as soon as possible is,” said the Deputy Defense Minister.

The launch of the pipeline will fill the Seversky Donets canal with Don water, from where clean drinking water will go to many Donbass settlements.

Previously, military builders have already erected and commissioned a number of water supply facilities, including the Chernovsky water pipeline near Debaltsevo, in Volnovakha, Rovenki, Dokuchaevsk, a line from the Khanzhenkovskoye reservoir to the Seversky canal. Donets.

The new hydraulic structure will cross the territory of the Rostov region and the Donetsk People’s Republic to the Seversky Donets-Donbass canal. The pipeline’s capacity will be up to 300,000 cubic meters of water per day.

The project provides for the laying of two main pipeline lines, 200 km each, the construction of pumping stations, electrical substations and water tanks for 10,000 cubic meters.

In the course of construction, the military designers adjusted the solutions to take into account the periodic flooding of the Don and the severe bog of the river floodplain. They quickly provided an additional dam and breakwaters made of crushed stone, as ice protection.

In the laying route of the water pipe, 63 crossings will be made through vehicular and railway tracks and water barriers. In one of the particularly difficult sections, a 1.5 km long horizontal directional drilling will be carried out to pass under the bed of the track and one of the branches of the Don River.
