To save the life of the athlete, the doctors had to decide on amputation. The figure skater has undergone several difficult operations, he eats through a tube.
After another amputation, the patient’s condition deteriorated dramatically. They put him back into an artificial coma and hooked him up to a ventilator.
The skater’s lungs practically gave out. The right lung does not work independently. Extensive fibrosis was found in the left lung, fluid accumulates, only the lower lobe of the left lung works. Kostomarov himself cannot breathe.
All this led to hydrothorax – accumulation of fluid. Its cause was a violation of the outflow of lymph from the lung tissue. Water remains in the body for a long time due to decreased excretion by the kidneys.
Roman had drainage installed. His arteries are clogged. His current condition does not allow doctors to perform any surgical intervention.
Anna Korobkina, a nephrologist at the Hadassah Israeli Medical Center in Moscow, is inclined to believe that it is not just the kidneys that cause edema. “This can be caused by thrombosis, loss of protein. The process of disintegration of all organs has begun. Considering the severity of the condition, there is most likely a general multi-organ failure, including kidney failure. The edema it was the result of many serious disorders in the body, and there is always a risk of cerebral edema,” quotes Doctor Woman.ru.
Earlier, Kommunarka’s chief physician Denis Protsenko said that the doctors had chosen the optimal and only possible treatment regimen for Kostomarov to save his life. “Unfortunately, this led to forced surgical interventions. The situation was critical. There was a full understanding of the severity of the patient’s condition, the reasons that led to this. Treatment tactics, like any other, have their price. Not all The threats have been removed, but there is a high chance that the patient will survive,” Protsenko said. He leads a group of doctors treating Roman.
