As its director Valery Diev told RG, this event has been expected for a long time. The situation with the preparation of basketball players in the city was not easy: several sports schools were closed long ago. In 2016, the Olympic Training Center was established, but it did not have its own premises. The halls were rented out, which created many problems. Everything changed when the construction of the new center was included in the national Demography project. “It was built in a year! Until recently, we did not believe that this was possible,” recalls Valery Diev.

There are three basketball practice rooms in the center, and they have six rings each, to make it more comfortable to train. There is a gym and a medical rehabilitation unit. That is, all conditions have been created for holding classes, matches, Russian and city championships.

It is planned to develop here all kinds of basketball. Includes basketball for wheelchairs and for the deaf. The famous team of wheelchair athletes “Basque -” TsOP im. Vice President Kondrashina”. She is a twelve-time champion of Russia. “A special locker room has been made for people with disabilities, where an athlete can easily switch from an ordinary wheelchair to a sports one,” Diev explained.

65 million people in Russia regularly go in for sports and physical education. As part of the implementation of the federal project “Sport is the norm of life” of the national project “Demography”, more than 400 sports facilities and more than 1,500 TRP sports fields were opened

One of the tasks of the new complex is to assist in the rehabilitation of participants in a special military operation. Depending on the state of health, they can enroll in one or another team. Also this year children’s groups will be recruited. All classes are free.

Parking is located near the center, as many disabled athletes come by personal manual cars or social taxis. They come not only from various districts of the city, but also from the Leningrad region.

As part of the national project, sports facilities are also opening in other regions. For example, a new indoor skating rink started working in Omsk. Here they can practice both hockey players and representatives of the short track.
