Which workers will earn 80 euros more tomorrow on their payroll?

Date: April 1, 2023 Time: 16:25:21

More than 2.5 million workers in Spain will receive 80 euros more tomorrow, or in the next few days, on their payroll for February. But, what is the reason for this salary increase? Well, it has to do with the new Minimum Wage, approved just two weeks ago by the Government of Spain, and at the request of the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, currently led by Yolanda Díaz. The SMI is now 1,080 euros gross per month divided into 14 annual payments. However, what thousands of employees do not know is that it is retroactive from January 1, 2023.

Now, what exactly does this mean? The Minimum Wage has been valid since the beginning of this year. Specifically, from January 1, 2023, therefore, the difference for the month of January, which was not collected, must be reflected in the salary corresponding to the month of February, that is, 80 euros gross more to be collected for the wage earners It must not be forgotten that it is mandatory, so the company is forced to comply with the norm decreed by the Executive of Pedro Sánchez.

In any case, to confirm it, this means of communication has contacted sources from the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, who confirm that “the new minimum wage will have to be reflected in the next salary.” However, one point to be developed must be taken into account, which has to do with whether the payroll is received in 12 or 14 payments, since the amount may vary. Let us remember, of course, that article 31 of the Workers’ Statute states that all employees have the right to receive two annual extraordinary payments. Normally, they are charged in summer and at Christmas. However, there are collective agreements in which you can collect even on other dates or, what’s more, have the right to three extra payments a year.

How much is the minimum you can earn in Spain?

From January 1, 2023, the contracted person has to collect, at least, 1,080 euros gross per month distributed in 14 payments, or 1,260 euros per month in 12 payments, which represents an annual calculation of 15,120 euros gross. In the annual calculation, the increase with respect to the SMI 2022 is 1,120 euros. Therefore, the new one for this year represents an increase of 8% and the daily amount is established at 36 euros, in general.
