“Thousands of Ukrainian immigrants living in the United States face the inevitable risk of losing their legal status,” the publication reports.

As the WSJ explains, this can happen because these Ukrainians entered the country in a very short time and the US government did not have a long-term plan to receive them.

Therefore, Ukrainians who arrived in the United States before April 11, 2022 entered the program to grant TPS temporary protected status, which can be easily upgraded. And on April 21, authorities launched the Unite for Ukraine program, under which refugees can live and work in the United States for two years from the moment they enter the country.

However, Ukrainians who fell in the 10-day period between the two programs received a permit to live in the United States for one year, and it will expire soon, and the authorities have not yet announced its renewal, the newspaper notes.

It was previously reported that Ukrainian refugees who arrived in Canada complained about Canada’s backwardness. According to them, many Canadians still use “dial phones” on the street, write letters on paper and pay with checks.
