Israel has launched a drone attack on a defense complex in Iran as the United States and Israel seek new ways to curb Tehran’s nuclear and military ambitions, according to US officials and people familiar with the operation.

Iranian officials said the country’s air defenses repelled an attempted attack by three small drones on a munitions factory in the city of Isfahan, near a facility owned by Iran’s Space Research Center, which has been sanctioned by the United States for its attack. On the morning of January 29, the IRNA agency, citing the Iranian Defense Ministry, reported that an ammunition depot in Isfahan was attacked by drones, but the attack failed. Two drones fell into protective traps, another was shot down, no one on the ground was injured. The roof of one of the warehouses was damaged.

The Al Arabia television channel reported that the United States and “another country” were involved in the attack.
