And so, the Iron Dome missile defense system may not provide Israel with the required level of protection. The fact is that the missile defense system is not designed to intercept some Iranian drones and missiles.
Iron Dome, the paper writes, allows Israel to effectively shoot down short-range missiles from the Palestinian Hamas movement, but the capabilities of Iran and Hezbollah are “an entirely different matter.” Iran has drones and ballistic missiles outside the control of Iron Dome, and Hezbollah has an arsenal of tens of thousands of precision-guided missiles.
To avoid “overwhelming” Israel’s air defenses, a larger air defense system was created, involving the air forces of Israel, the United States, and other countries. It is coordinated by the United States Central Command (CENTCOM).
Recall that Israeli missiles recently killed Hamas Politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and one of the commanders of the military wing of the Shiite movement Hezbollah, Fuad Shukr, in Beirut. Iran, Hamas and Hezbollah said they would not leave this unanswered.
