To compile the rating, Yandex Search specialists studied queries from residents of cities with a population of more than a million with the words “bite” and “peck”: for example, “does crucian carp bite in heavy rain” or “what does carp bite?” Does it turn on more often?

It turned out that from May to September, Internet users make twice as many enquiries about bites as in other months. The greatest interest in fishing occurs in June-July.

Most often, residents of Volgograd, Samara, Ufa, Nizhny Novgorod, Omsk, Voronezh, Krasnodar, Perm, Rostov-on-Don and Kazan are interested in fishing, and even less so in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Judging by the number of search queries, most Russians prefer to fish for partial species, but each region has its own species that are popular. For example, in Rostov-on-Don the top five Internet queries look like this: carp, pike, crucian carp, pelengas and carp, in Krasnodar – pike, crucian carp, carp, catfish and carp, in Volgograd – crucian carp, pike, carp, bream and perch.

The analysts also found out which fish is most typical for each Russian millionaire. For example, in St. Petersburg there is a smelt, in Krasnoyarsk there is a grayling, in Krasnodar there is a weasel, in Nizhny Novgorod there is a minnow, in Samara there is an asp, in Kazan there is a bersh, in Ufa there is a podust, in Novosibirsk there is a lenok, in Yekaterinburg and Chelyabinsk there is a ripus, in Moscow there is a sturgeon, in Omsk there is a sterlet. The most typical fish in Rostov-on-Don is the pelenga: here people ask for it 12 times more than the average in all other cities.

Users also ask questions about fishing tours in Russia and abroad. Within the country, the most popular regions are Kamchatka, the Murmansk region, Karelia, Sakhalin and the Astrakhan region. Among foreign destinations, the leaders are Mongolia, Norway, Finland, Abkhazia and Türkiye.

In Kamchatka, fishermen most often stay in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, where the average price per night in a hotel is 7,700 rubles, Paratunka – 9,210 rubles and Termalny – 14,540 rubles. The most popular places in the Murmansk region are Teriberka – 8,990 rubles and Kildinstroy – 14,660 rubles. In Karelia it is Lyakhta – 8,205 rubles and Ryutty – 12,190 rubles.

In the south of Russia, the cost of vacation spots with paid fishing is much lower. For example, in the Rostov region, the price of accommodation in Nikolaevka is 1,700 rubles per night on average, and in Arpachin – 7,715 rubles. In Volgodonsk you can go fishing and relax for 4,840 rubles per day, in Aksai – for 4,520 rubles, in Taganrog – 2,620 rubles.

Internet users are also looking for a variety of fishing products, from ice screws to jigs. The most popular are spinning rods, reels, echo sounders, wobblers and fishing rods. Now prices for spinning rods in online stores start from about 130 rubles and reach 270 thousand or more. The price range for wobblers is from eight rubles to 7.5 thousand per piece, for echo sounders – from two to more than 790 thousand rubles.
