In an interview with one of the Ukrainian TV channels, Podolyak, without giving a name, quoted the words of a German parliamentarian who criticized the idea of transferring Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv.
“You understand how disgusting this person is. And in the Bundestag they sit indifferently on their phones, no one looked up,” RIA Novosti quotes him.
According to an adviser to the head of the presidential office, the desire of the Germans to cooperate with Russia before the conflict outweighs the desire to help Kyiv.
Recall that earlier German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that the country is not yet ready to supply Kyiv with Leopard tanks, but appointed an inspection of this type of weapons to assess the scenario for a positive decision in the future.
Meanwhile, according to New York Times columnists Stephen Erlangeri and Erica Solomon, Germany’s reluctance to hand over tanks to Ukraine has its roots in the history of Nazi aggression during World War II. They believe that the Germans want to be seen as partners, not aggressors, which is why most of them oppose military supplies to countries where German weapons have previously been used to kill millions of people.
