The Chainsaw Man anime didn’t say goodbye without giving us a few pixels first with the appearance of Reze, one of the girls who is sure to break it during the return of the animated series. Now we are going to tell you everything we know about the creation of this character by the mind and hands of Tatsuki Fujimoto himself.
Nothing really… but when we get close to a certain word, we can assume that the author of The Chainsaw Man played with words to associate the same meaning with his purple-haired waifu.
It is likely that Rese’s name is a reference to the English word Raze (sweep), the meaning of which is already beginning to give us an idea of the true nature of the character. In the character’s native language, Reze (spelled “Rese”) is the term for a lock, especially one that uses a rolling shutter.
Whether we’ve only watched the anime or read the manga, every Chainsaw Man fan knows that Denji drools over Makima, but what if he wasn’t like that all along? One of the inspirations for creating Reze was the idea that Denji would have the opportunity to meet and fall in love with another woman. A rather simple formula, actually, but it opens the way to new possibilities for the development of the story, including the intervention of the protagonist’s “first love” in this new novel.
