Jujutsu Kaisen quickly became one of the most popular series in the world, and in 2022 it reached a new milestone by becoming the most successful entertainment franchise in Japan. That’s right, Jujutsu Kaisen, which had no new anime episodes last year, has managed to outdo veteran franchises like One Piece and Pokémon.
Oricon unveiled its 30 most commercially successful franchises of 2022, noting with surprise that Jujutsu Kaisen took first place with over 10 billion yen in revenue recorded during the year. Which is all the more surprising given that the anime never released a second season. But yes, last year we premiered Jujutsu Kaisen 0, the highly anticipated film about magicians.
The Gege Akutami series is followed by One Piece, Tokyo Revengers, Spy x Family and Love Live! in the top five positions. The list also includes other big names in anime at the moment such as My Hero Academia, Chainsaw Man, My Dress-Up Darling and Haikyu!!
Season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen already has a launch window for the 2023 summer season, so there’s no doubt this year will also be full of news for fans and the franchise. Unfortunately, this year the manga may end, at least according to Gege Akutami.
