That’s right, this is the original design of the protagonist, which is completely different from what we know, since everything seems to indicate that Koyoharu Gotoge had an idea at the beginning of creating this exciting story.
In an interview that can be found on Manga Plus, Kimetsu no Yaiba manga editor Tatsuhiko Katayama noted that this protagonist’s first design would not be kind, kind, or warm because it would be the opposite.
For this reason, sketches of what Tanjiro would be have been revealed, and the truth is that he looks much colder and darker than what we see in his current version. The original was full of scars and his personality would have been focused on revenge, meaning his goal would have been to destroy the demons and not spare them.
However, this design had to be changed, like most of the story, because Gotouge-san intended to show us a darker work, and without so many moments of humor, it would even have been called Kisatsu no Nagare.
