The new My Hero Academia movie premiered this past weekend, just as the manga’s final chapter was released, and it seems that Houkei Horikoshi’s work continues to be one of the most beloved as the story is a huge success on the big screen.
According to Anime News Network, the new film in the franchise has had a very strong start, as it managed to sell 608,500 tickets in its first weekend of debut, bringing in 895 million yen in revenue, making it one of the best films at the Japanese box office.
My Hero Academia: You’re Next has a completely original story written by the author himself, while still showing what he originally wanted to do with some of his characters, plus now the villains belong to an evil organization.
Among the details we know is that the antagonist has a physical form similar to All Might’s, so this may cause headaches for some heroes as the Peace symbol may be damaged, or so some fans think.
The film will not be part of the anime canon, as it is all written based on the early planning ideas Horikoshi had for My Hero Academia, and it is possible that it will not have an impact on the anime when Season 7 is viewed. It is possible that something could change.
On the other hand, My Hero Academia is based on a manga of the same name that started publishing in 2014 and ended in 2024, and also inspired an anime series with 7 seasons, 4 OVAs, 4 movies, and even 2 video games.
