Monkey D. Luffy is one of the easiest characters to identify today, which is why One Piece’s live action brought up the question of this character… Why is he wearing sandals in this flesh and blood adaptation?
The live adaptation of One Piece a couple of days ago gave us a couple of new images, and some of the most observant fans noticed a big difference from the anime, which is that you can see Iñaki Godoy, the Mexican actor he plays Luffy, but in a shoe that is very different from our favorite captain’s classic sandals.
The change of sandals is undoubtedly a very noticeable change in Captain Straw Hat’s appearance, and in order to explain the reason for these changes, Emily Rudd made a Tik Tok explaining the reasons.
The actress, who plays Nami on the same Netflix live show, attributed the changes to security concerns in risky scenes, which, in fact, they also participated in on several occasions.
“Many of us did as many stunts as we could (and when we didn’t, it was mainly for safety reasons, which is provided by an amazing stunt team). Unfortunately, sandals weren’t the safest shoes for these scenes, and we didn’t want you to miss out on the amazing work Inyaki (Luffy) can do…and did.”
