The army team in the final simply smashed the rivals from Perm. “Chekhov’s Bears” won bronze for the first time in history.
For the first time in the current millennium, there is a new champion in Russian men’s handball. “Chekhov’s Bears”, which had not given anyone first place for more than two decades, became only the third. And the gold went to CSKA Moscow, which has just overthrown the permanent champion in the semifinals. There was no drama in the final – CSKA turned out to be much stronger than the Perm Bears.

In general, the CSKA victory turned out to be an everyday thing. In the final series of as many as two victories, Valentin Buzmakov’s team did not have a single chance. In Perm, the Muscovites won with a difference of eight goals, but in that series the main thing is only a victory, not a difference in score. It’s just that this difference showed how much one team was stronger than the other.
The Perm Bears needed to win in Moscow. And for about 20 minutes the guests did. But that’s all. CSKA confidently leveled the score, then took the lead by one ball, then the lead increased to two goals, and the teams went into the break with the score 22:19 in favor of the hosts. In principle, it is not a critical gap, if immediately from the beginning of the second half to reduce it.

It just happened the other way around. CSKA for a few minutes brought the score to devastating. It must be said that the goalkeepers played very badly in Perm. Almost everything that flew into its gates flew in. At the gates of the army, Dmitry Kuznetsov shone at that time. He also had a weak first part, but it was in the first part of the second, when everything was decided, when he was planted like a wall.
It only took CSKA 10 minutes in the second half to secure a win in the second game as well, then the teams just played. The final score is 39:30 in favor of the army team.
