Many scientists continue to explore possible ways to fight for a long and active life. One of them is Dr. David Sinclair, co-director of the Paul F. Glenn Center for Biological Research on Aging at Harvard Medical School.

The 54-year-old expert claims to have reduced his biological age by 10 years thanks to his technique.

The researcher is dedicated to genetics and biogerontology, which considers the evolutionary processes of aging and ways to overcome them. He calls aging “the greatest epidemic” and believes that humanity should dedicate resources to find a fight against it.

What advice does Sinclair give to stay young?

The information below is a guide only and should not be used as a diet plan or lifestyle recommendation. For personalized advice, contact your doctor.

Nutrition

David studied special proteins, sirtuins, which play an important role in regulating cellular processes. They are essential for longevity. In order for them to work, there are several nutritional rules that form not so much a diet as a nutrition system:

a small amount of sugar and starchy foods in the diet, adherence to a diet aimed at activating sirtuins: Dr. Sinclair skips breakfast, drinks plenty of water and eats mainly plant foods;

Using intermittent fasting according to the scheme, an eight-hour eating window, and a 16-hour fasting window, this style of eating activates the processing process of old or damaged cells in the body.

Compliance with such a diet is possible only with regular monitoring of one’s own well-being and test results.

Exercise

Dr. Sinclair recommends exercising at least 30 minutes a day, at at least an average pace. Even if it is not possible to allocate the entire half hour for this at once, short interval training will still have a positive effect on your health.

Recommendations for organizing activities:

alternate high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and other programs, such as running and walking;

How effective are Sinclair’s recommendations?

Such changes in the diet cannot be made on their own, they require the advice of a doctor. Intermittent fasting, proposed by a geneticist, and the rejection of animal proteins, sweets and starchy foods are not new trends in nutrition.

The exclusion of any food group must be accompanied by a search for an alternative that meets the body’s need for nutrients.

It must be understood that the proposed system is not a sprint. To achieve the ultimate goal of maintaining health for many years, the recommendations must be strictly and carefully followed. It is important not to be lazy to spend part of your time building new eating and behavioral habits that require strength and discipline.
