In the world of soccer, there are often episodes where rivals are willing to get into each other’s shoes to achieve a result. The conflict between Zinedine Zidane and Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup final in Germany is one of many examples.
Less frequently, judges can be seen in such incidents. But they are human and they have emotions. During the match, the Croatian referee verbally ran over the mother of soccer player Robert Peric-Komsic from the Cibalja club, representative of the Croatian second division. After that, a fight almost breaks out on the field.
Robert Perić-Komsic was until recently considered a promising player in Croatia. He was repeatedly called up to various youth teams, but, like many soccer players, after a strong start to his career, not everyone reaches the level. In addition, family circumstances did not allow me to devote all my time to my favorite game. Robert’s mother had serious health problems, her liver was practically nonfunctioning. This went on for 13 long years, until it was decided that a donor was needed to continue her father’s life. They became Peric-Komsic himself, who agreed in 2022 to donate around 70% of his own liver for the sake of his mother’s health.

The doctors had little faith that the twenty-four-year-old midfielder would be able to continue his career after such an operation, and if he could, the level would be completely different. But Roberto did not give up. The Balkan footballer, contrary to the forecasts, continued to play even better, becoming one of the key pieces of his team. Last weekend, in the game of the next round of the Croatian championship, “Cibalja”, who is third and fighting for promotion, received the leader, the Rudes team, in his field. The match ended in a 1:1 draw, but the main event of the meeting was not the result, but the conflict between the referee who served this game and Robert Peric-Komsic.
In the 25th minute of the game, the referee showed Robert a yellow card for foul play. And already in the 27th minute, he took out the footballer who was violently expressing his indignation. In the ensuing verbal skirmish, the referee, not with the most flattering words, ran over the midfielder’s mother, after which the scandal went to another plane. The player and the referee had to be separated by teammates. Perić-Komšić himself has no regrets:
– If you had told me something else, then everything could be in order. But I will never forgive such an insult. And frankly, I don’t care how many tickets I get for it. I don’t consider it necessary to bring our conversation to the public, and I don’t care if the referee is punished”, the Croatian edition of 24sata quotes Peric-Komsic.
