The Netherlands is not such an obvious outsider.
Today, July 10, we will find out the second finalist of Euro 2024. England played the decisive match of Euro 2020. And now they are fighting for a new attempt to get closer to the trophy. The Netherlands has not reached the final phase of the Euro since 1988! Who has the best chance of winning? We study the opinions of bookmakers and analysts.
The broadcast of the match between the Netherlands and England in the Russian Federation is available in the Okko online cinema.
England are probably the most talked about team at the Euros. With a minus sign. The Brits were expected to put on fiery, passionate and scoring performances in every game. Kane, Bellingham, Foden, Saka, Palmer, Gordon, Eze, Toney, Watkins, Bowen – a powerful selection of attacking players. Probably the best of the tournament. But in the end England scored only five goals in five games. And if it weren’t for Bellingham’s masterpiece in the 90+5 minute of the round of 16 match against Slovakia (2-1, dv), the English would already be at home. There are many questions for coach Gareth Southgate.
And yet England is a tough team. Let us explain:
What are the strengths of each Euro semi-finalist? Yes, and England too.
And for the Netherlands, reaching the semi-finals is already an achievement. Before the start of the Euro, Ronald Koeman’s team was among the top 10 teams, but was not among the favourites. And in the group stage, the Netherlands performed inconsistently: they beat Poland (2-1), scored boring zeros against France and then lost to Austria (2-3). The team left the group only in third place. But in the playoffs we were lucky with qualification: first it went to Romania and then to Türkiye. In these matches, the Netherlands showed great football and reached the semi-finals.

Who is the favourite for the next match? Bookmakers are giving preference to England. The odds for Gareth Southgate’s team to reach the final are 1.78 and for the Netherlands 2.05 (including extra time and penalties). The British are expected to win in regular time at 2:70, the Dutch at 3:30.
Opta analysts are even more reserved. The difference in the teams’ chances, according to their version, is minimal. The probability of England reaching the final is estimated at 51.51%, and the Netherlands at 48.49%. In fact, the chances are estimated at 50/50. But it is even more interesting for us, ordinary fans. Maybe England saved up its strength until the semi-finals and will now surprise with attacking combinations?
The Dutch national team goalkeeper plays in England. And now he is rocking the Euro:
He led Holland to the semi-finals of the European Championships. There hasn’t been a goalkeeper like him since van der Sar!
