Tretyak announced his desire to hold a match between the Russian national hockey team and the Canadians in the United Arab Emirates.
Russian Hockey Federation President Vladislav Tretyak spoke about the organization’s immediate plans for the national team and also expressed regret that Russia was not invited to the Four Nations Tournament.
“I have an idea: I would like to play with the Canadians somewhere in a third country, for example in the Emirates. It would be interesting. Well, okay, not the main teams, but at least the youth teams, the ones for 20-year-olds. Canadians are less involved in politics, so you can play with them. Besides, they know that no matter what World Cup it is, no matter where Canada and Russia are, the main match is Canada-Russia. With all due respect to the Finns, Swedes, Czechs… It’s like CSKA – Spartak, eternal confrontation, the highest TV ratings.
Well, it is important that this is open hockey. The Finns play at home. Yes, they are world champions, they follow their own path. But fans are always more interested in beautiful attacking hockey. We always promote it. And in the USSR, this type of hockey was also played.
“We would love to play in the World Cup there, but we were not invited. All the NHL players are there, I don’t know why we were not invited. If they played in North America, there would be no problems there. Normally the NHL does not get involved in politics, but here it is,” Tretyak said in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda.
