Former Russian national team goalkeeper Vladimir Gabulov stepped down as Khimki’s general manager at his own request, according to the club’s official website.

Gabulov has been in charge since the end of December 2021, when the Moscow Region club was in last place in the Russian Premier League with 14 points. Khimki reported that in the next few days they would announce the appointment of a new CEO.

Roman Teryushkov, a member of the club’s supervisory board, told TASS that there are no candidates for this position yet, as Gabulov’s departure was “an unplanned event”.

“Unfortunately, Vladimir left the club for family reasons. We do not interfere with this, although we understand that for us this is the high point of the season: the remaining three rounds for us are similar to a super final in our history. But we went to meet him and we are grateful for the work he did. For a fairly short period of time, there was a series without losses, 15 points, more than in the entire autumn part, ”Teryushkov said.

The former goalkeeper of the Russian national team was appointed general director of Khimki

Khimki is 12th in the Premier League standings with 29 points from 27 games.

Gabulov is a two-time champion of Russia, a bronze medalist at the 2008 European Championships as part of the national team. In 2018, he headed the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports of North Ossetia. After that, he was president of Alania, until the summer of 2021 he served as chairman of the board of directors of Olymp-Dolgoprudny.
