On the night of July 29-30, a fight for the BMF belt took place at UFC 291. The title of the main “bad boy” of the league was shared by Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje. But a couple of weeks ago, both fighters were not talking in the best way about the title. But the fight turned out brilliantly, Highlight knocking out his compatriot in the second round. And he immediately announced that he was going to compete for a real championship belt. It just seems that with the BMF title, Gaethje was simply paid.

Of course, Justin hopes that immediately after Charles Oliveira, he will be the one to get the chance to compete for the belt from Islam Makhachev. But the big questions arise about how much others need it. The Russian has a fight with the Brazilian, and then, if the starter ends in victory, there is unfinished business with Alexander Volkanovski. He, by the way, returned to the first place in the P4P ranking. Thus, Islam once again became a welcome rival.
It’s also unlikely that the UFC would be interested in Gaethje’s title. Because? But because, most likely, he will now be allowed to defend the BMF belt. And Makhachev is not suitable for such a duel. The organization will have to seriously think about who exactly to give Highlight to. But in the list of potential opponents, the Russian is unlikely to be in the lead.

It looks like another status fight is coming up for Gaethje. Conor McGregor said of wanting to fight him: “Justin, I’m going to slap you. I am a true BMF. You can fight for a penny if you want, but I need the money and I’m in charge here. Fuck Chandler. If you want this fight, demand it.”
But Highlight is well aware that Conor has him by the nose as well. McGregor just picked another victim for the trash talk, but he’s in no rush to get back in the Octagon. Therefore, Justin rejected the challenge quite categorically: “Conor refused to fight me six times. As a general rule, to get a duel with him, you need to go to [серии] defeats I’m glad you mentioned me? I don’t know, I don’t care. I like big fights, and it certainly sounds appealing, but I won’t fight someone on steroids. I have never taken steroids in my life and never will. Of course, Gaethje dreams of a championship fight with Makhachev or Oliveira. And he can really get it only if Charles wins. But with Islam in the foreseeable future, Justin is unlikely to fight. Therefore, he will have to wait for the Brazilian (in the event of Oliveira’s defeat) and have another challenger fight with him, or close the trilogy with Poirier. So far, these options seem the most likely.
