Franchises that have been successful in the past come back for a variety of reasons. Sometimes a team has a great idea and a relentless passion to execute it (Mad Max: Fury Road). Sometimes old guys just want to get together and have a good time (“Bad Boys to the End”). But more often than not, the comeback is just an attempt to get into the pockets of fans. The theft can be disguised with jokes, a charming smile, and nostalgia, so the victim won’t even feel cheated.
It was the last trick Tim Burton pulled off. Obviously, he didn’t have a brilliant idea or much desire to make a sequel. But people have loved Beetlejuice for 36 years, so they buy Beetlejuice and don’t seem too disappointed.

“Beetlejuice 2”: Where to watch?
For now, the film is only being shown in foreign cinemas. Unofficial screenings in Russia will inevitably begin, tentatively from September 12 to 15. The new product will be released digitally approximately in October-November.
The video is available on Kinoman’s YouTube channel. The video is copyrighted by Warner Bros.
There are some great actors there, but they have nothing to play.
Since the first part, where the Ditch family got along with the Maitland ghosts and fought with the crazy Beetlejuice, a lot of water has flowed under the bridge. Lydia became a popular medium with her own show, lost her husband and her father and also fell out with her daughter, played by Jenna Ortega. She also notices Beetlejuice from time to time and prays to the gods that the ghost turns out to be a hallucination and not a real guest from the other world. But soon these problems will seem trivial, largely due to the daughter’s guilt.
At the same time, Beetlejuice has his share of misfortunes. The old enemy suddenly came to life and now wants to suck the charismatic bastard’s soul out of his grasp. To solve everything, Lydia and Beetlejuice team up.
Old and new heroes

Tim Burton has assembled venerable actors: he brought back Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton to the roles of Lydia and Beetlejuice, and made Ortega and Willem Dafoe the new heroes. It would seem that the stars will certainly shine, but they have nothing to play. The plot is extremely simple, nothing unexpected happens and Tim Burton simply exploits the moves that everyone loved in 1988.
Take, for example, the evil young woman played by Monica Bellucci. According to the idea, she should scare you to death, but the image is not developed at all; in the end, you are only drawn to the actress’s attractive appearance. Ortega again plays a depressed girl who, unlike Wednesday, does nothing interesting: mostly she yearns and turns her ears towards a new portion of noodles. The situation is similar with Lydia: Winona Ryder’s charisma is not enough to interest you in the personal drama.
Nothing has changed in the world of the dead.

The drive comes solely from Keaton, who again gets really weird, makes faces and pulls one nasty trick after another (you’re unlikely to forget the demonic child). The legend is supported by a detective played by Willem Dafoe – in a past life he was an actor and posed as a tough agent on camera, and after his death he really got into character. The detective’s theatrical behavior at least makes you smile.
The problem is that these guys have to carry the entire movie themselves and don’t get enough screen time. It’s not because Ortega and Ryder aren’t trying, it’s just that the script is too tight for them.
Beetlejuice makes a lot of funny faces, but always on theme

Good times don’t come together
There are some interesting moments in the new Beetlejuice. The bureaucracy of the other world is still hilarious. The dead have a lot of fun during Halloween. Danny DeVito makes an interesting cameo. As in the first part, there are nice musical numbers.
But all these episodes don’t make up a single movie, but rather seem like scattered sketches. They’re fun to watch, but you expect more from a great movie with a venerable director. Unfortunately, Tim Burton himself hardly took the sequel seriously. So I made an optional movie that you don’t mind missing.

Beetlejuice 2: Is it worth watching?
There’s no point in going to see Beetlejuice 2 in the cinema, it turned out to be too simple and unoriginal. But waiting for the digital release and watching the new product at home is not the worst idea. At the very least, Keaton and Dafoe’s eccentricities deserve attention.

Keaton and Dafoe are wonderful. There are some good jokes.
I didn’t like it
Mediocre plot. The actors have nothing to interpret.
