In nature, there is a wide variety of allergens. They are divided into domestic, insects (arising from contact with insects and their metabolic products), bacteria, food, dust and pollen. There is also a main one (this is the so-called main allergen), which causes an allergic reaction in a person, and a minor one, with which the body reacts transversely. All this bouquet creates an allergological landscape, individual for each patient with hay fever.

What are we talking about?

Seasonal allergy is a hypersensitivity to pollen, where the role of the allergen is vegetable protein from various plants.

In Russia there are three flowering seasons. From early April to late June the trees flower, then from June to July they are joined by cereals, and finally from late July to September weeds mature.

In May in our country – the peak of flowering birch, horse chestnut, oak, ash, pine. That is why allergic rhinitis, which affects 10% to 30% of children and adults, becomes a very urgent problem.

If every season in the same period has the following signs, then this indicates the presence of an allergy. These include:

Runny nose Nasal congestion Sneezing Burning and itching in the nose and mouth Redness of the eyes Sensation of sand in the eyes Coughing Choking attacks.

The appearance of pathology is due to sensitization. This is a condition where the body overreacts and becomes sensitive to a particular allergen. For example, to pollen from trees and grasses.

First, irritation to foreign substances occurs, and then an allergic debut occurs, which is manifested by hay fever, that is, seasonal rhinitis, conjunctivitis (inflammation of the mucous membrane of the eye). It can proceed as a bronchoobstructive syndrome (narrowing of the intrathoracic airway lumen).

The reasons for the manifestation of such a reaction of the body are primarily a hereditary condition, which is called atopy. It is typical for a large number of people on Earth.

Some scientists indicate that about 25% of people are prone to allergic reactions. In other words, your body produces more immunoglobulin E than ordinary people.

It is written in the genes. The person overreacts to the environment. These people are called atopic, the tendency to this type of reaction can manifest itself in different ways. For example, in the form of seasonal and food allergies, bronchial asthma and household types.

Today, allergies are treatable. We can help patients even in the most serious cases, such as bronchial asthma. The therapy consists of medications.

There are generic drugs. They relieve acute symptoms. For example, antihistamines that block the release of histamine, the main mediator of an allergic reaction, which is produced by mast cells. Specific therapy, also called ASIT therapy, is also used.

There are two directions here: prevention of allergic reactions and exacerbations of seasonal allergies.

The first begins from the very birth of the child and even in the prenatal period. What other measures are there? Maternal nutrition, environmental cleanliness, food quality, individual heredity, presence of chronic diseases in pregnant women. Much depends on the body of a woman.

At the end of the last century, it was found that in the womb the fetus has a special window of tolerance, when the body’s immune system, as it were, learns, gets used to those types of allergens or protein antigens that are dissolved in the la mother’s blood

If this diversity is high and many different proteins cross the placenta, then the child’s body adapts very well. As a rule, he does not have an allergy.

Therefore, in many countries there is a principle of nutrition for pregnant women: a very diverse diet is selected, because a woman should receive a large amount of trace elements, vitamins, so that the fetus develops better and gets acquainted with a large amount of antigens and allergens.

This is one approach. But it is only applicable if the woman is healthy and she herself does not have any allergic diseases.

If the mother is allergic, the methods will be completely different. In this case, on the contrary, it is necessary to limit highly allergenic foods, especially those that cause allergies in it. So, most likely, the born child will not acquire hypersensitivity to foreign substances.
