The Milanese club fit in in minute three, but the Argentine turned the game around.
Fiorentina and Inter met in the Coppa Italia final. The start of the match was terrible for the Milanese, but then their scorer got down to work.
Fiorentina had the chance to add a long-awaited trophy to the collection. The Florentine club has not had them since 2001. More than 20 years ago, Fiorentina became the owner of the Italian Cup – they beat Parma on aggregate (1: 0, 1: 1). And since then it hasn’t worked. In 2014, the Florentines reached the Cup final again, but this time they lost to Napoli (1:3).
But the victory in the final is not only the cup. There is another nice advantage. The winner of the Italian Cup in the new season will play in the Europa League, if he does not finish in the top 4 of Serie A. Inter are just getting into the Champions League zone, but Fiorentina do not shine in that sense. Winning the final would have guaranteed Vincenzo Italiano’s team a place in European competition.
The beginning of the game in the sold out Olimpico in Rome turned out to be very joyful. The Fiorentina fans already had reason to rejoice in the third minute. Jonathan Ikone shot at the far post, where Nicolás González ran. Fiorentina’s most expensive player (28 million euros) shot under Samir Handanovic, and the goalkeeper’s desperate jump proved useless. By the way, a week ago, González sent a “kopeck piece” in the second leg semifinal of the Conference League with Basel (3:1).
Midway through the first half, Inter fans jumped out of their seats with joyful anticipation. Edin Dzeko escaped from the defenders and jumped one on one goalkeeper. It seemed that such an experienced attacker calmly implements a 100% moment. But the joy of the Inter fans was premature. Dzeko shot the ball over the crossbar; after this, all he was left to do was grab his head.
Four minutes later, Lautaro Martínez demonstrated how to specify those moments. The world champion fired coolly into the far corner after a great pass from Marcelo Brozovic. The combination (and its result) pleased the Inter leaders very much, who rewarded the players with applause. By the way, for Lautaro this is already the 100th goal with the Milanese club’s shirt.
At the end of the first half, we saw a similar picture. Martínez scores, the Inter board of directors jumps from their seats in the VIP box. This time the Argentine in a beautiful jump sent the ball under the crossbar over the hands of the goalkeeper. Nicolo Barella facilitated the pass for the touch of goal. Barely half an hour was enough for the Champions League finalist to turn the game around.
Halfway through the second half I remember the episode with the participation of Lukaku, who came on as a substitute. The textured Belgian charged from long range and Pietro Terracciano hit the ball in front of him. However, the goalkeeper immediately managed to finish off Federico Dimarco. However, the side referee raised the flag, and the repetition convinced the correctness of the decision. Later, Lukaku finished a great pass to the far post, but Robin Gosens did not close. The defender Dodo very actively interfered with him, so the German’s blow did not turn out to be sensible.
Martínez could make history if he wins the Champions League:
The forward “City” or “Inter” will go down in history. Only 9 stars won the Champions League and the World Cup in one season
Fiorentina answered, and how! Only Handanovic’s reaction saved Inter from conceding a goal after Luka Jovic’s shot. It is curious that before that, the blue-blacks botched a promising attack. For some reason, Barella ignored two free teammates and fired somewhere in the area of the upper sectors of the stadium. And how Fiorentina did not score in the next episode is not entirely clear! Jovic threw his head into the far corner, but missed the goal. Arthur Cabral, for his part, did not have a couple of centimeters to correct the flight of the ball.

In the end, Fiorentina tried to change the score on the scoreboard, but all attempts were unsuccessful. Inter won the second trophy of the season, having previously won the Italian Super Cup. And Inzaghi won the Coppa Italia for the third time. He previously won this tournament in 2019 (with Lazio) and in 2021 (with Inter).
