Simone Inzaghi was not a standout player, but he had a good career. His peak came at the age of 11 at Lazio. Together with the Eagles, Inzaghi won Serie A in the 1999/2000 season, as well as six cup competitions. In 2010 Simone retired and immediately became a coach. He remained in the structure of Lazio, beginning his practice with youth teams. Six years later, he was entrusted with the main composition. Inzaghi served as head coach during the spring segment of the 2015/2016 season, and the team was then led by Marcelo Bielsa. However, the Argentine resigned a couple of days later, simply for not making it to Rome. Therefore, Inzaghi was finally approved as head coach. Together with Simone, Lazio returned to the Champions League group stage for the first time in 12 years, and also played in three cup finals. And how do you think they ended? Naturally, in favor of Lazio.
In the Italian Super Cup final in 2017, the Eagles beat Juventus 3-2 in a scoring match. Two years later, the Super Cup poster was repeated, and Lazio became stronger again – 3: 1. And in the final of the Coppa Italia – 2018/2019, the Romans beat Atalanta Gian Piero Gasperini – 2: 0 Total: nine Inzaghi Cup finals with Lazio – nine wins. Magic!

In 2021, Simone was promoted. Inter Milan called Inzaghi instead of Antonio Conte. And the new coach immediately took the Italian Super Cup for the club. In January 2022, Inter beat Juventus 2-1 after extra time. Inzaghi beat Juve in the Super Cup final for the third time in his career. Then Inter also took the Coppa Italia. Guess who got hit? That’s right, Juventus! And again in overtime – 4:2. This season, Inter repeated the “golden” double: in the Super Cup final they defeated Milan 3-0, and in the decisive match of the Cup they defeated Fiorentina 2-1.

Let’s summarize the cup finals for Inzaghi. Six wins in six playoffs in his playing career. Winning seven finals out of six as a manager is a 100% result. In total, Simone won 13 (!) final matches. Incredible result. Manchester City should strive for the similar statistics of the opponent’s coach. But if anyone can break Inzaghi’s streak, it’s only Guardiola’s incredible team. One way or another, Inter scored an abrupt move to the Champions League final. It will not be easy for City.
