The Russian track and field icon couldn’t even jump 1.89 m.
Tokyo Olympic high jump champion Maria Lasitskene, who missed almost the entire summer season, competed at the Russian Championships in Chelyabinsk. That’s just the return of the leader of the Russian team turned out to be a bit of a blur.
Lasitskene is no longer the same?
The three-time world champion could not overcome the height of 1.89 m, it seems that for an athlete of the Lasickene level this is a mere trifle. After all, at the Olympic Games in Japan, he conquered a height of 2.04 m, a personal record – 2.06 m, but the result is a modest seventh place.
The best result was shown by the Belarusian athlete Karina Demidik – 1.97 m. She performed outside the medal table. Gold of the national championship was received by Kristina Koroleva with a score of 1.91 m.
Lasickienė does not believe in his return to the international arena:
Maria Lasitskene: I think my international career is over
“We work further”
Why did Maria perform so poorly? Everything is explainable.
This summer season, the athlete came out at the start only once – at the national team championship in Sochi. Lasickene then took second place, stopping at a height of 1.88m.
Later it became known that the Russian athlete underwent a medical examination and treatment due to problems with the Achilles tendon. Even then, no one undertook to talk about the timing of the recovery. The Olympic champion could have missed the rest of the season entirely.

“After the injury there was very little technical training, there are no miracles in the high jump. Therefore, we were ready for this result, we had to look at ourselves in competitive conditions, understand what was happening with the technique and how my body felt. And I’m glad nothing bothers me. We continue to work, ”TASS quotes Maria Lasitskene.
“I really wanted to become a champion” – in the Czech Republic in athletics in Chelyabinsk, emotions are at the limit!
“Hands were shaking, everything was shrinking inside.” In the Czech Republic in athletics, he almost reached the drama
“Masha is a real fighter!”
Olympic champion – 2012 Anna Chicherova said that with her return, Maria Lasitskene showed fighting qualities.
“Of course, when you get injured, it is very difficult to achieve a high result without competition, but Masha showed us this wonderful comeback at the Olympics and before the Olympics. An Achilles tendon injury is a limiting story, and it was clear that Masha did not yet have the revulsion inherent in it.
Everything is understandable here, even psychologically overcoming it is not such an easy task, because fear subconsciously sits. Masha is a real fighter who, despite such a long break, went into the sector and tried to make a vacation. It turned out what happened, ”Chicherova told TASS.
Lasitskene plans to perform in the final of the Queen of Russian Sports track and field series, which will take place in Yekaterinburg from August 17-19. Let Mariya Lasitskene miss this tournament according to the regulations, she expects the organizers to introduce the wild card rule.
