The IOC doubts France’s capabilities and threatens to cancel the Games in the United States. The Olympic future has never been so unstable and uncertain!
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games have ended. And sports fans naturally have a question: When are the next Olympic Games?
The answer to this question is simple and complex at the same time.
We will celebrate the Olympic Games. But that is not certain
At the end of July, during the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, the 142nd session of the International Olympic Committee was held. On 24 July, during a meeting, the IOC members decided to grant France the right to host the 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. During the vote, this request was supported by 84 people, 7 abstained and 4 were against.
But there is an important nuance. The IOC has not yet signed an official contract with France to host the competition. It is simple: the political crisis in the country intervened and the organisation never received guarantees from the French government. The old cabinet of ministers has resigned, a new one has not yet been appointed and Olympic decisions are up in the air.

The IOC, however, decided to trust Emmanuel Macron and wait for guarantees. However, to confirm the seriousness of his intentions, the President of the Fifth Republic personally visited this very session of the IOC. He said that he would ask the new government to work closely on the Olympic project.
“Seven years ago we made the same commitment (to hold the 2024 Olympic Games – Championship Note) and we fulfilled it. Now we will do the same,” Macron was quoted by the IOC press service on social media.
Here’s the story: There is a host country for the 2030 Olympics. But there are no guarantees.
Will the US Games be cancelled?
At the 142nd session, the location of the next White Olympiad, in 2034, was voted on. It will take place in Salt Lake City, United States.
However, even here there is an ellipsis at the end.
The doping scandal involving Chinese swimmers, which has led to a full-blown war between WADA and USADA, threatens serious consequences. The IOC said it reserves the right to deprive the United States of the 2034 Olympics if WADA’s supremacy abroad is not recognised.

“The IOC has the right to terminate the Olympic contract if WADA’s supremacy in the fight against doping is not fully respected or if the implementation of the World Anti-Doping Code is undermined,” said IOC Vice President John Coates.
Of course, the American sports authorities have assured everyone of WADA’s support. However, within 10 years the world of sport could be turned upside down.
Single-candidate elections
The situation seems a little simpler with the Summer Games. The 2028 Olympics will be held in Los Angeles. The city has already received an Olympic flag: Tom Cruise brought it to the United States as part of the spectacle of the closing ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games.

The XXV Summer Olympic Games will be held in Australia. Interestingly, this venue was chosen through a new procedure, without the usual application campaigns that require large investments. Brisbane was the only candidate city and received the support of 72 of the 80 delegates in the vote.

The list seems short and mighty, but one cannot help but feel that the IOC, faced with ever-declining interest in organizing the Games and choosing a single candidate, somehow hastily pushed the Olympic Games to the cities. And then, whatever happens, happens. As if such an avalanche were not counterproductive for the Olympic movement.
