Khachanov lost the Miami quarterfinal battle to Zverev. Only one Russian left in parentheses

Daniil Medvedev’s rival is already determined. It was the Chilean Nicholas Harry, who eliminated the top 10 Casper Ruud.
On the morning of March 27, Moscow time, the matches of the men’s singles fourth round ended at the Miami supertournament (USA). The last match of the day, scheduled for the afternoon local time, faced the Russian Karen Khachanov, seeded 15, and the German tennis player of Russian origin Alexander Zverev (4).
Before meeting Zverev, Khachanov had two fights in the tournament. First, Karen beat the Serbian Laslo Djere in two games, and then, not without problems, she faced the Argentine number 20, Francisco Serundolo, 6:1, 5:7, 7:6. Zverev, in meetings with Felix Auger-Aliassime and Chris Eubanks (31), managed without losing a single match.

In head-to-head matches, Zverev led with a score of 3-2. He won in Saint Petersburg 2016, Roland Garros 2018 and the final of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which was held in 2021. Khachanov managed to win the Paris Masters in 2018 (where he was finally proclaimed champion) and the Montreal Masters in 2019, both times in the quarterfinals.
Russia’s honorable coach Viktor Yanchuk believed that Khachanov could surprise Zverev. “I think he can give Zverev surprises. Now Karen is confident in herself. And she with a game like that she can beat almost any opponent. She is in good shape and no one will have an easy time against him,” TASS quotes Yanchuk.
But there was no surprise. In the first set, Zverev had an overwhelming lead. He regularly made big attacks and Khachanov often made mistakes. At the beginning of the match, the rivals took the game on serve, and then the German did not allow Khachanov to do anything, taking five games in a row. Alexander scored two breaks to love and in the seventh game he went with 0:30 and served for the match 6:1 in just 27 minutes.
In the second set everything was determined by the break that Zverev made in the third game, taking advantage of Khachanov’s inaccuracies. As in the first game, the Russian never came close to breaking points. And in the tenth game, Alexander calmly served for the match: 6:1, 6:4 in 1 hour and 10 minutes.
Earlier, US Open 2021 champion Daniil Medvedev (3), who won the title in Miami a year ago, played his round of 16 match. Medvedev defeated German Dominik Köpfer 7:6, 6:0. Read more about this in a separate article.

And Daniil’s rival in the quarterfinals will be the Chilean Nicholas Harry (22), who unexpectedly beat the Norwegian Casper Ruud (7). Harry paused in the first game, but in the sixth game Ruud came back 3:3. The set ended in a tie-break, in which the Chilean won with two mini-breaks 7:3. And in the second game, Nicholas played well in his games, serving three times to love: Kasper did not have a single break point. Harry won thanks to the break he achieved in the sixth game: 7: 6 (7: 3), 6: 3 in 1 hour and 50 minutes.
Finally, one cannot fail to highlight the confident performance of the world’s 57th racket player Fabian Marozsand, who in the second round sensationally defeated the sixth seed Holger Rune (6:1, 6:1), and now He stopped Alex de Minaur (9).
In the first set, De Minaur had no break points, so a break in the tenth game was enough for Marozhan to win the game 6:4. The Hungarian lost the second set 0:6. But in the decisive game she took revenge convincingly. The fifth game was key, when De Minaur missed a double break point at 1:3. After that, Fabián once again took the opponent’s serve and then served for the match on the third match point: 6:4, 0:6, 6:1 in 1 hour 45 minutes.
Marozhan will become Zverev’s opponent in the quarterfinals.
