“Meet me in prison.” Nobody believed in Brown, but he is Boston’s hero

JB showed all the haters that he’s worth something in the NBA.
Boston’s current core dates back to the 2016 draft, when the Celts selected Jaylen Brown with the third overall pick. The shooting guard improved each year, forming, together with Jason Tate, who was selected with the same number in the 2017 draft, one of the strongest duos in the National Basketball Association. Brown owns the most impressive contract in NBA history, but it seems like Jaylen’s championship and his playoff performance should have silenced all the skeptics who have been slinging mud at him for a long time.
It has long been known that Brown is a great two-way player who makes a difference on both sides of the floor. But this postseason, the guard has proven to be the leader of the team. In the first two rounds of the playoffs, Boston felt no resistance from Miami and Cleveland, winning both series by a score of 4-1. Only in the Eastern Conference final against Indiana did the Celts feel from the first game that it simply wouldn’t happen. The team, led by Brown and Tatum, trailed by three points with six seconds remaining. It was Jaylen who made the toughest three-point shot, which he successfully converted, sending the game to overtime, where Boston won.

Only the second game managed to win Boston quite easily (126:110), the rest were fought until the last seconds (133:128 OT, 114:111 and 105:102); Although the Celts won 4-0, this matchup certainly cannot be considered an easy road. Brown was excellent throughout the series with Indiana and was deservedly named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Eastern Finals. “Boston” had to face “Dallas” in the final, which gained incredible momentum during the 2024 playoffs. Some even believed that the “bums” were the favorites in the fight for the NBA championship.
The inaugural meeting in Boston provided answers to many questions. Brown became the most productive player of the first game for the Celts, as he firmly shut down Kyrie Irving. The defender did not stop there, but he continued to demonstrate his excellent performance in the most important series of the entire season. Jaylen used smart passing to open up Dallas’ paint in their own half, always defending against one of the two leaders: Doncic or Irving. As a result, Boston took the championship, becoming the club with the most titles in NBA history, surpassing the Los Angeles Lakers (18 trophies compared to 17). Brown, in turn, took home the MVP award for the final series.

In 2014, Brown posted on social media: “My teacher told me we’ll meet at the Cobb County Jail in five years… Wow.” Ten years later, the defender was proclaimed champion! People didn’t believe in Jaylen since his high school days, but with his perseverance and work he showed that he could be Boston’s best player in the NBA Finals, eclipsing Jayson Tatum, who is the team’s main superstar. Plus, we can safely say that JB had an exceptional playoffs, and the Celts can easily claim a second straight cup next season with such a good team!
