Thousands of cycling enthusiasts will be riding through the city streets in colourful outfits and illuminating the streets of the capital with bright lights.

Today, July 6, the Night Cycling Festival will be held in Moscow. Traditionally, participants wear unusual costumes and decorate their bikes. This time, the event was called “Glowing Holiday”, so it will be doubly bright, impressive and fun. This year, more than 20 thousand people are expected to take part in the cycling festival.

“Following the instructions of Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, we organize cycling festivals in the capital every year to show how many fans this type of transport has. Registration for the night cycling parade is open: we invite you to join the celebration and become part of the friendly cycling movement,” said Moscow Deputy Mayor Maxim Liksutov.

Time and place

On July 6, the meeting of participants will begin at 21:00 on Suvorov Square. Entry from Seleznevskaya and Durova streets. Departure is scheduled for 22:00. The direction of movement of the column of participants will be through the central part of Moscow towards Tsvetnoy Boulevard along the section of the Boulevard Ring with an exit to Prechistenskaya Embankment. From 21:00 to 00:00 there will be a festive village with various events, interactive areas and a food court.

Registration of participants

Participation in the night cycling marathon is free for all persons over the age of 16. It is important to register in advance on the official website of the event and receive an individual participant number. You can print it and attach it to your clothing or bicycle.

What is important to know about the Moscow Night Cycling Festival in 2024?

It is necessary to install a white light on the front of the bike and a red light on the back, as well as reflective elements. In addition, it is recommended to wear a helmet, gloves, elbow and knee pads. It is important to check the working condition of the bike in advance, install a rearview mirror, a bell and place a water bottle on the frame.

During the festival, it is necessary to drive at the average speed of the convoy: 14-15 km/h, to signal about lane changes with hand signals and not to make sudden stops. Beginner cyclists should stay on the right side of the road.

At the cycling festival, it is prohibited to use phones and other devices while riding, drink alcohol and smoke, carry sharp objects and glass bottles, distribute or display advertising material without the consent of the organizers and use slogans, mottos and flags with flagpoles. Participation on electric scooters, unicycles and other personal mobility devices (IM) is not permitted. Riding electric bicycles is permitted subject to a safe speed limit of no more than 15 km/h.

Traffic restrictions

For the safety of the participants in the bicycle column, certain sections of Moscow roads will be blocked.

From 20:00, it will be impossible to pass through Suvorov Square. The restrictions will be lifted as the bicycle convoy advances. From 21:00 to 23:00, the restrictions will apply to the section of Seleznyovskaya Street from Dostoevsky Lane to Suvorovskaya Square. And from 21:30 to 23:59, a section of Luzhniki Street from Luzhnetskaya Embankment to Building 24, Building 35 on Luzhniki Street. From 21:30, Samotechnaya, Sadovaya-Samotyochnaya and Tverskaya streets, Tsvetnoy, Petrovsky, Strastnoy, Tverskoy, Nikitsky and Gogolevsky boulevards, Prechistenskaya, Frunzenskaya and Luzhnetskaya embankments, as well as Soymonovsky Proezd and Bolshoy Putinkovsky streets will be closed. The streets will be opened to traffic when the bicycle column passes. From 00:01 on July 6 until the end of the event, parking will not be allowed on the paved areas. On July 6 from 08:00 to 18:30 and on July 7 from 00:01 to 07:00, one lane will be closed to traffic on Suvorovskaya Square, on Frunzenskaya Embankment from Khamovnichesky Val Street to Andreevsky Bridge, and on Luzhnetskaya Embankment near the intersection with St. Andrew’s Bridge.

From 00:01 on July 6 until the end of the event, parking will not be permitted in the slab areas.
