– Volleyball is not the most popular sport in Russia. At the local level, in some cities like Belgorod or Kemerovo, it is popular, but at the national level, its popularity is extremely low, although the national team and clubs play at a high level.
– Maybe more people would follow volleyball?
– Of course available. And in recent years, volleyball has been on the rise. In particular, the Belogorye volleyball club is doing a great job in this regard, trying to attract people to the stands, to show how interesting volleyball is, that it is spectacle and entertainment for the people, and for athletes it is work and life.
– If volleyball were a contact sport, would it attract masses of fans?
– If volleyball were a contact sport, it would not attract additional fans, since almost all other team sports are contact sports: basketball, handball, football and other sports in Russia do not attract mass spectators to the stands. So I don’t think that’s the secret to success.
