Previously, Russia eliminated everyone at the European Games. Now ours just wasn’t called

The European Games start in Poland. There are Ukrainian artists there, but not a single Russian athlete.

2023 is not an Olympic year, but this does not mean that there will be no major multi-sport tournaments until 2024. On the contrary, on June 21, Poland will host the III European Games, which will be attended by more than seven thousand athletes.

What a pity that Russians and Belarusians were not allowed to attend this holiday.

Wrestling and gymnastics are eliminated.

253 medal games in 29 sports will be played in Krakow and the cities of Lesser Poland Voivodeship during the 12 days of the European Games.

48 countries of the continent will participate in the European Games. There will even be a refugee team, a quintet, consisting of boxers and taekwondo athletes.

Traditionally, the tournament is held every four years, its program, unlike the Olympic program, is constantly and quite strongly changing. Unlike the previous Games held in Belarus, the tournament in Poland will not include aerobics, acrobatics, wrestling, as well as Greco-Roman and women’s wrestling, road and track cycling. This time there will be no trampoline, sambo and artistic gymnastics. In these disciplines, the Poles are not particularly strong.

But unusual and still very young species will appear. For example, break, beach handball, paddle tennis, ski jumping, climbing, rugby sevens, water sports, modern pentathlon, triathlon and teqball.

What kind of sports are these?

Let’s start with teqball. This is something like a mix of soccer and table tennis, but on a crooked table. This sport was invented in Hungary only nine years ago and has already become part of a big tournament. Five sets of prizes will be played at the European Games: singles and doubles for men and women and mixed.

The main feature of paddle tennis is a court covered with glass or metal walls that you can hit. In this way, the players during the match help themselves to beat the opponent. The paddle will be played in pairs: male, female and mixed. Only three sets of prizes.

For dance lovers there are breaking competitions. This is a discipline known to a wide range of fans as break dancing. One of the most plastic and musical athletes will converge here. Who moves better, more technically, will be decided by men and women, and each one in their category.

Breakdancing will now be at the Olympics!

At the Olympic Games now they will dance. Is the great sport becoming a laughingstock?

At first there was a show…

These big sports competitions traditionally start with the opening ceremony. A colorful show will take place in Krakow, at the Henrik Reiman Stadium. The organizers inform that Eurovision participants from Ukraine: the Kalush Orchestra group, young Polish talents Tribbs and Roxy Wengel, as well as various dance groups will perform at the presentation. There is a place for modern solutions. The use of advanced technology and visual effects will create an atmosphere of magic.

As is customary at the Games, a fire will be lit in the stadium.

Where there was sport, there is politics

In May 2023, the European Olympic Committees (EOCs) announced that they would not tolerate athletes from Russia and Belarus at the European Games.

Neither in neutral status nor in Russian and Belarusian refugee status did they have a chance to attend the main multi-sports forum of the year.

But the European Games in Baku (2015) and Minsk (2019) were won by the Russian team. Belarusians in their homeland showed the second result.

For all the time of participation in competitions, our athletes won 273 medals. This is several times more than other leading sports powerhouses. Germany, for example, has just 92 awards, while the UK has even fewer: 70.

How the 2019 European Games turned out for Russia:

To the delight of the president. Russia did not give Europe a chance
