Russian boxer, former world heavyweight boxing champion Murat Gassiev has received Armenian citizenship, according to the website of the Armenian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports.
“Professional boxer Murat Gassiev is the current Asian champion according to WBA Asia and Eurasia according to EBP. Recently, the boxer received the citizenship of the Republic of Armenia”, says the website of the ministry.
Deputy Sports Minister Karen Giloyan expressed her hope that in the near future the athlete will also compete under the Armenian flag.
On March 3, Gassiev will fight American Mike Balogun at the Karen Demirchyan Concert and Sports Complex in Yerevan as part of a professional boxing evening.
Gassiev has 29 victories in the professional ring, 22 of them by knockout and one loss.
