It is impossible not to mention Pakistani Arshad Nadeem. He was not considered a medal contender at all, but look at his attempt: a javelin had never been thrown so far at the Olympics. Almost 93 metres!

And just yesterday, American Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone smashed her own world record in the 400m hurdles. A new record: 50.37 seconds. Dutchwoman Femke Bol, who had hoped to compete with Sidney, was almost two seconds behind – not even from the Moon, but from Mars.

A touching story about Letsil Tebogo’s victory in the 200m race. The boy’s mother died in the spring while he was in the United States to compete, and he promised that he would do everything to honour her memory with worthy results at the Olympic Games. Gold is more than worthy.

As Olympic Day rolls around, it’s time to look back at what happened around midnight: Team USA’s victory over Team Serbia in the semifinals of the men’s basketball tournament. The Serbians outplayed the dream team throughout the game, but in the end the Americans went into beast mode and turned the tide. Cool combination, in the coolest photos.

Good morning! Another Olympic day has begun in Paris. The marathon swimmers have already swum one kilometre along the Seine, and they have another nine kilometres to go. Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo repeats like a mantra that the river is clean, but it turns out that the samples did not meet the standards until 30 and 31 July. But the athletes have nowhere to go: the competitions cannot be cancelled.
