The former UFC champion and one of the brightest fighters in the league is retiring. Or not?
The UFC 290 mixed martial arts tournament continues in Las Vegas. On the undercard of the tournament, the legendary Robbie Lawler, former welterweight champion of the organization, had his last fight of his career. The American knocked out his compatriot Niko Price in 38 seconds and ended his brilliant and eventful career.
The fight ended too quickly. Robbie grabbed his opponent by the head and from the clinch landed two side punches and an uppercut, after which Price crumpled to the ground like a downed man. Lawler didn’t even finish off his opponent, the referee immediately intervened in the fight, fixing Robbie’s victory by technical knockout, and Lawler himself could barely contain his emotions.

On the one hand, such a brilliant victory could not but bring joy to the fighter. On the other hand, even before the fight, Robbie said that this was the last fight of his career. The 41-year-old American debuted in mixed martial arts at the turn of the century and since then has had 47 fights, 31 victories. Robbie started in the UFC in 2002, managing to win the welterweight championship belt and making two defenses, one of which was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame; this, of course, is the legendary battle against Rory MacDonald. If you haven’t seen this fight then it’s a must watch. Robbie was remembered by fans as a fighter who gave his all in every fight, cut through all opponents and put on a true show in the cage. It’s even more astonishing that Lawler’s career ended only at the age of 41: the battles the American went through would end many, but not Robbie.
Remembering Robbie’s Way
Ruthless. The Robbie Lawler Story
After the duel with Nico Price in the octagon, Joe Rogan appeared with Lawler, who invited Robbie himself and the audience to enjoy the best moments of the legendary fighter’s career. And Lawler barely held back tears as he watched footage of his many victories.
However, Robbie never took his gloves off and put them in the center of the Octagon, as many fighters traditionally do. Perhaps, having understood his brilliant victory over Niko Price, Robbie decides to give the fans a few more fights, who knows. Although during his long career, Lawler has already shown everything to the whole world and entered his name in the history of this sport.
