Seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher’s first Formula 1 car is for sale at Bonhams. Lot number 556 appears on the auction’s official website.
Michael Schumacher made his debut at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix in a Jordan-Ford 191 (chassis 191/6). Then the German driver showed the eighth time, sitting behind the wheel of a car of this class for the first time and ahead of his teammate Andrea de Cesaris.
The car is in working order, it was used in filming for SkySports at the Silverstone track where it was driven by Karun Chandhok and Michael Schumacher’s son Mick.
The lot is accompanied by a copy of a letter from Jordan Racing Engineer Trevor Foster recounting the history of the car.
According to Foster, at the beginning of the session, Michael was faster than de Cesaris, after which he asked to use a spare car (chassis 04). And Michael had a leak in the cooling system.
“It required engine removal. Andrea stayed in the spare, and we gave him Michael Andrea’s car (chassis 06), in which he showed the eighth time, ahead of Andrea, ”the letter says.
