The main contenders for victory had a terrible race.
The men’s relay race of the summer Alfa-Bank Russian Biathlon Championships ended with a sensational victory of the team from the Volga Federal District.
The results of the first shoot-out for the residents of Ugra were surprising. Dmitry Ivanov immediately got into two penalty circles and lagged behind his opponents by more than a minute. Some of the main contenders for the awards were unable to rectify the situation and by the end of the first stage were 1.5 minutes behind the leader.

And the hosts of the competition began to take the lead. The team from the Krasnoyarsk region, thanks to the efforts of Roman Boychevsky, took the lead, largely thanks to a perfect shot.
What was the men’s sprint like at the 2024 Summer Championships?
When will the collections start winning? The entire team was defeated by the most experienced biathlete in the region.
This was the case in the second stage. Danil Maltsev had already increased the lead of the Krasnoyarsk team to 20 seconds. But in the stands, the 25-year-old athlete hesitated and prepared to run two penalty loops.
The path was open for the new leader of the relay. And several biathletes, including Anton Babikov, could take advantage of this opportunity.

But, apparently, the resident of Tyumen, Mikhail Burundukov, was more prepared for this. On his stage, he led the team from Bashkortostan with Babikov to 18.4 seconds. The halfway point has been crossed.
The biathletes’ sprint in Krasnoyarsk was so impressive:
Slivko didn’t want to race, but she won the sprint at the 2024 World Championships. And Shevchenko fell
As it turned out, all efforts were in vain. The record for misses at the shooting range was set by Vyacheslav Maleev, who failed to skillfully use additional ammunition. The result is sad: at that time the Tyumen region had four penalty laps and a 1.5-minute delay. There was no way to make up for such a loss.

No matter what the shootout was, there is a new leader. The relay was led by the Volga region team with Ivan Kolotov. Yes, yes, this is the athlete who beat Latypov and Loginov on the snow in spring. But there was none here, and Kolotov seemed to be lost in the stands, entering the penalty loop.
The biathlon carousel brought unknown biathletes to the fore: Andrei Kovalenko from Krasnoyarsk and athlete Vladislav Zotov from Bashkortostan. And after the first run of the final stage, Denis Irodov (Moscow region) led the relay.

The flags on the lines swayed from time to time, reminding us of the difficult wind conditions. Irodov and Usov entered the circle, leaving Bashkir biathlete Danil Materkov to move forward a little. World champion Maxim Tsvetkov also entered the medal race there.
But in the end, only Daniil Usov managed to defeat Materkov. The team from the Volga region won the labor victory in Krasnoyarsk. Bashkortostan took silver, and representatives from St. Petersburg took third place.
And it wasn’t a boring fight!
