The athlete won an epic victory. He jumped to the finish line to get ahead of his opponent. Video

Is it possible to win a race by jumping as hard as you can at the finish line? Olympic champion, Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen, gave a masterclass on how to do it correctly in front of his home fans on the Diamond League stage in Oslo. Victory, the best result of the season in the world: that is the answer.

In the capital of Norway, in the sixth stage of the world’s main commercial athletics competition, the participants fired, but Ingebrigtsen outshone everyone with her shot.

“It was stronger than the last time”

As expected, in the Diamond League phase in Oslo special attention was focused on the Norwegians: Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Karsten Warholm. Both athletes had great careers, although they turned out completely differently.

Warholm suffered a rare defeat in the 400-meter hurdles. The Norwegian walked the entire distance almost perfectly and could have won, but a mistake at the last barrier deprived Carsten of precious fractions of a second. Alison Dos Santos took advantage of this, catching up with Warholm literally in the last few meters. As a result, the Brazilian and the Norwegian were separated by 0.07 seconds. Dos Santos won (46.63), while Carsten had to settle for second place (46.70).

Jacob had less luck last week. He lost miserably to John Kerr.

“I could beat him blindfolded.” Ingebrigtsen lost to her main opponent

Ingebrigtsen took a cold victory with a dramatic showdown at the finish line. Jacob was in the lead from the beginning of the race and even managed to separate himself from his pursuers in the last meters of the distance, but Timothy Cheruiyot worked hard at the end and did not allow the Norwegian to run calmly ahead.

Ingebrigtsen and Cheruiyot literally had to figure it out before reaching the finish line. It turned out to be extremely dramatic: Jacob slipped on the rain-soaked road and fell right in front of the line. Despite the fall, the Norwegian was declared the winner. In flight he was ahead of the Kenyan by 0.03 seconds! After such a triumph, Ingebrigtsen even performed a funny dance.

By the way, Jacob finally achieved the best result of the season in the world with a time of 3:29.74.

“It was a real sprint. It was a good race and I felt stronger than last time. So today was all about improving my skills. At the same time, I wanted to do everything possible to please the fans with a show,” said the Norwegian.

“Medals are forever”

But tonight it wasn’t all about the Norwegians. Great Britain’s Matthew Hudson-Smith won the 400m race in style, not only beating 2012 Olympic champion Kirani James by half a second, but also updating the European record. Hudson-Smith improved his achievement from 2023. Then Matthew ran in 44.26 seconds, and now in 44.07 seconds!

“I didn’t know what shape I was in and time didn’t matter in a way because I was more worried about winning and preparing for the Olympics. In the end all time is temporary, but medals are forever. “I really want to leave Paris with a medal,” the Briton responded to his record.

Few people will be surprised by this season’s strong records. Especially Duplantis!

Is he even human? The great Duplantis achieved a fantastic record on his first attempt!

The women’s 200 meter race ended with a real surprise. It looked like Sherika Jackson would win on a fairly regular basis, but something went wrong. The Jamaican athlete finished only fifth (22.95) and the victory went to Brittany Brown. The American, who ran in 22.32 seconds, took gold in the fight against Marie-Josée Ta Lou (22.36) and Daryll Neita (22.50). Interesting scenarios two months before the Olympic Games.

“It was a very fast race”

The 5,000m track and field athletes also had a great performance. At first the battles of Joshua Cheptegei, Jacob Kiplimo and Yomif Kejelchi seemed quite normal, but soon Hagos Gebrhiwet intervened. Kejelcha and Gebrhiwet took the lead, closely followed by Kiplimo and Cheptegei. Soon Joshua pulled away from the group and Hagos unexpectedly picked up the pace and took the lead.

As a result, Gebrhiwet finished first (12:36.73), almost two seconds ahead of his compatriot Kejelcu (12:38.95). Kiplimo rounded out the top three with a time of 12:40.96.

How do our athletes perform in isolation?

Shubenkov lost the first start of the season. Will he really no longer win in Russia?

This race became truly historic. First of all, for the first time in history, two athletes managed to run 5,000 m in less than 12.40. Secondly, for the second time in history, 13 track and field athletes completed the distance in under 13 minutes! And it is not surprising that in one race six athletes broke their national records.

“I am very happy with my time. I set a personal record when I first ran in Oslo and now I’ve improved it. The conditions and spectators were great. It was a very fast race and it wasn’t easy for me, but it went very well. Now I will try to qualify for the Olympic Games in the 10,000 m distance,” said Hagos.

The next stage of the Diamond League will be held in Stockholm on June 2.
